§ 24-97. Stopping, standing or parking prohibited in specified places.

  • (a)

    No person shall stop, stand, or park a vehicle at any time except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with the directions of a police officer or traffic-control device in any of the following places:

    (1)

    At any place where official signs prohibit stopping.

    (2)

    In any safety zone.

    (3)

    At points where street intersections are offset within the street area between property lines extended to opposite sides of streets.

    (4)

    In any zone designated as a fire zone by traffic sign or signs posted on the curb along such fire zone and by red paint markings on the parking surface so designated as a fire zone, whether such zone be located on the public streets or public property of the city or on property owned by private individuals. Provided, no fire zone located on property owned by private individuals shall be recognized for the purpose of this subsection until the chief of the fire department of the city has approved the location and designation of such fire zone by the owner of such private property.

    (5)

    The following parking restrictions apply in rights-of-way of the city where the below-specified curb marking colors, as authorized by the city administrator, or designated agent, are being used:

    a.

    Red. No parking at any time, except for fire and other emergency vehicles.

    b.

    Yellow. No parking, except for the principal purpose of loading or unloading the contents of a vehicle, for no longer length of time than is required for such loading or unloading in a continuous operation and as expeditiously as possible for the circumstances.

    (b)

    No person shall move a vehicle not owned by such person into any such prohibited area or away from a curb such distance as is unlawful.
