§ 10-61. Definitions.

  • For the purposes of this article, the following words and phrases shall have the meanings respectively ascribed to them:

    Authorities having jurisdiction shall mean the chief of the fire department, the chief of the fire prevention bureau, the chief fire inspector or the building official of the city, or their representatives.

    Explosives shall mean any and all types of explosive materials and blasting agents when used in conjunction with explosive detonating caps and fusing devices, and any other commodity used to produce an explosion or any type of blasting.

    Quarry operations shall mean the use of explosives for the removal of rock, shale, and like materials from the earth for the purpose of using, transporting, or conveying same for construction or manufacturing.

    Surface blasting shall mean that type of blasting where explosives are used in removing obstructions in excavation ditches, pits and penetration of rock at construction sites.
